    DT 250/400 tank

Leslie the coil pictured is 0.5 Ohm have you checked that the Newtronics ignition can safely power it. It may draw to much current for the switching circuit.

    DT 250/400 tank

You need 2 coils. The tunnel in the photos looks pretty narrow and I am guessing that the Newtronic ignition being an older design wont be able to drive a coil with resistance too much lower than stock. I think you will be hard pushed to find suitable coils much smaller than the ones you have.I...

what is this raised boss capped with a nut?

Put the bike in neutral and remove. It houses a spring and a bullet shaped engagement pin. The link is to a parts drawing. https://images.cmsnl.com/img/partslists/yamaha-xs650-1977-usa-shifter-1xs650dee006501f_bigyau0812d-3_4e95.gif With the bike in neutral nothing can fall into the transmission.

    DT 250/400 tank

Without seeing the size you have to work with its hard to offer anything other than generalisations. Here are my ideas: If your bike is not rephased is one dual output coil easier to fit under the tank. I cant think of any small 3ohm coils of the top of my head but have a look at electrex world...

Camshaft timing - Is my engine timed one crankshaft tooth out?

A quick check. On a stock bike with #1 at TDC the mechanical advance drive pin hole in the cam should be a 6 o'clock. If it isn't your cam timing is out. I cant advice about points plate position.

Securing Rear Chain Sprocket Bolts with Just Red Loc-tite??

If you are learning to lockwire here are some tips. If using standard XS rear sprocket bolts tighten them to torque. Work out which pairs of flats on the bolt head you need the holes in and mark . Doing 2 bolts at a time. Undo the bolts drill and replace taking note which bolt came from where...

Ninja EX500 carbs on an XS650?

Still quietly working on these carbs. No JJJ needles available here in NZ, I tried to order from Allens in the UK (during November 2023) they have them on backorder and when I asked of a ETA no reply. That was disappointing and I wont waste my time with them again. Jets R us have them and I was...

    Hughs complete cdi timing

Not for Hughs specifically but I set all inductive ignition pickups to 0.4mm. As an aside I have been told on early CDI ignitions the timing could be altered slightly by adjusting the size of the gap.

    Electronic ignition.

Have a look at their website. They make 2 types red box and blue box. Decide what type of type you want then look up the coil specs.http://www.boyerbransden.com/coils_ballast_resistors_plug.html There are some review threads on here about the Trispark.
